Although the weather in Southern California is starting to ease, area firefighters who went down to help out aren't likely to get back before Nov. 5.

Fire companies from Lyon and Storey counties are among a large contingent of companies sending manpower and equipment to California to fight the 15 fires burning.

Capt. Bob Ryser with the Central Lyon County Fire District, said the Northern Nevada strike teams are on 14-day assignments and will probably have to stay the whole time.

"There are still so many fires here," he said. "We've only been here for five days and we have been to three fires. The odds of us getting out of here anytime soon are still pretty slim."
