Afternoon rain, thunder and lightning storms played havoc with East Carson City power on Monday afternoon.
Karl Walquist, Sierra Pacific Power spokesman said the downpours that came in bursts, coupled with a lightning strike, caused an outage at the Brunswick Canyon Substation for about 75 minutes. The substations service 6,275 homes in East Carson City.
Traffic along Highway 50 East was snarled as emergency crews scrambled to make up for lost traffic signals.
Walquist said the Brunswick Substation also services some parts of Incline Village, and those areas as well were without power for just over an hour.
The Capital City can expect more of the same today.
There's a 30 percent chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms after 11 a.m., with a high in the low 60s and a low in the mid to high 30s.
Winds are expected to 5-10 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
