A memorial service for Daniel R. Berker, 61, a Carson City resident, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Autumn Funerals and Cremations. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Sunday.

Berker died Sept. 4, 2007, at his home. He was born March 28, 1946, to John R. Berker and Phyllis Berker in LaPorte, Ind.

Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Orange County, Calif., and Lincoln, Ill.

Berker earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from Purdue University, and a Master of Science degree in mathematics and electrical engineering from California Institute of Technology.

He worked for Hughes Aircraft, NASA, and Software and Engineering Associates. He made significant contributions to America's Space Shuttle program.

Berker was preceded in death by his wife, Billy Sue Berker.

Among his survivors are his father and stepmother John Sr. and Sue Berker of Lincoln; mother Phyllis of Itasca, Ill.; son and daughter in law Douglas and Arlene; brothers John Jr. and Paul; sister Karen; stepdaughter Angela and one grandchild.
