A Carson City woman was in custody Wednesday, charged in the alleged abduction of her 5-year-old daughter from the arms of the child's maternal grandmother on Monday in California.

Shannon M. Prieto, also known as Shannon Coleman, 23, is being held in the Carson City Jail on a Corning, Calif., warrant charging her with being a fugitive from justice. Her bail is set at $100,000.

According to Tehama County Sheriff's Capt. Paul Hosler, Prieto allegedly showed up unannounced Monday night at the Corning home of her mother, Lori Coleman, and grabbed her daughter from Coleman's arms.

Coleman called the Tehama County Sheriff's Department at 6:45 p.m. Monday to say Prieto, Prieto's sister Natasha Navarro, of Reno, and an unidentified Hispanic male had fled with the girl in a 2002 Ford Taurus, according to reports in the Red Bluff Daily News.

Federal investigators tracked Prieto to Reno where they located her car. At about 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Carson City deputies assisted the federal agents in arresting Prieto at her apartment on Pheasant Drive. The child was returned to her grandmother.

According to Hosler, Prieto had dropped her daughter off with Coleman seven months ago and hadn't returned. Coleman was then granted guardianship of the child in a California court.
