Carson Senators football coach Shane Quilling said Wednesday that senior running back Will Holbert is likely finished for the season after breaking his ankle in Friday's 28-7 loss to the Reno Huskies.
Quilling left open the possibility that Holbert, who leads the team in rushing and receiving, could possibly return within five weeks or six weeks.
The Senators, 0-1 in the Sierra League and 0-4 overall, will play South Tahoe (0-1, 0-4) Friday at 7:30 p.m. in their second league game of the season.
Quilling said he would turn to senior Chris McBroom, junior Maciek Kuroczka and sophomores Mark Sinnot and Erik Roberson to try and flll the shoes of the 6-foot-1, 200-pound Holbert.
The loss of Holbert will also leave a void at the cornerback slot. Quilling moved the multi-talented Holbert over to cornerback from his outside linebacker slot for the game against the Huskies.
Holbert, also a guard on the CHS basketball team, rushed for 267 yards and five touchdowns on 56 carries for the Senators this season. He also had 10 receptions for 86 yards.
