Western Nevada College invites parents, students and families to its first Latino Community Day 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 6 in the Sarah Winnemucca Hall. Attendees will enjoy a complimentary lunch, free child care, raffle prizes, and a presentation in Spanish about the many programs at the college.

"We are offering an opportunity for everyone to learn about the process to register for classes at the college and how parents can help their children succeed in college," said Luis Pierrott, WNC Tech Prep coordinator. "People can discover the many programs at Western that can provide job skills for a better future."

Participants will tour the Carson City campus and find out about programs such as automotive technology, computers, construction, and welding, free English as a second language classes, and more.

- Gas pipeline work continues on Fairview Drive from Butti Way to Highway 50 East. Lane restrictions are in effect with controls for movement of heavy equipment.

- Due to the construction of the new Sheriff's Administration Building, Harbin Avenue is closed to traffic between Musser and Second streets. This closure will remain in effect for the duration of the construction which is estimated to be completed in September.
