Freshman Brent Moyle had a strong effort to lead another solid showing for the Carson High boys and girls cross country teams at the Manogue Invitational on Wednesday.

The event was a class meet in which runners competed against those in their grade. Many of Carson's top runners also didn't compete as they are preparing for one of the West Coast's prestigious events, the Stanford Invitational to be held on Saturday.

Virtually all of Carson's runners who competed on Wednesday lowered their time from three to five minutes from the last time they ran on a two-mile course. Moyle was no exception as he won the freshmen boys race in 12 minutes, 22 seconds, lowering his time by 21Ú2 minutes.

Moyle's effort led the Carson freshmen boys as they were the top finishers in the team score. "He had a really good outing," Carson coach Pete Sinnott said. "He just looked good."

Moyle also finished less than a minute behind the winners of the sophomore, junior and senior boys races. Also for Carson's freshmen boys, Evan Richards was fifth in 12:53, Brandon Buonacorsi was ninth in 13:16, Brandon O'Keefe finished in 14:14, Joe Ward finished in 14:40 and Noel Lopez finished in 15:35.

For Carson's sophomore boys, David McMasters was sixth in 12:21 and Josiah Toral finished in 15:17.

Andrew Richards finished 17th for the junior boys in 13:32. For the seniors, Kristen Dockery was eighth in the girls race in 15:41 and Tyler Davies was 17th in the boys race in 13:24.
