Carson City

Talk on streetcars coming to museum

Phil Stevenson will present a program about Japanese streetcars at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Nevada State Railroad Museum.

Stevenson has traveled the world to observe, photograph and ride on streetcars. His most recent trip was to Japan, where he visited Okayama, Matsuyama, Kochi, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Kumamoto, Kagoshima, Sapporo, Hakodate and Tokyo.

The Nevada State Railroad Museum operates steam-ups with historic Virginia & Truckee Railway equipment on selected weekends throughout the year. Open daily from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., the museum is on Highway 395 at the south end of Carson City. Call John Frink at 687-6953.

'Strings in Schools' concert Thursday

"Strings in the Schools," Carson City Symphony's after-school program, will present a free concert at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Plaza Conference Center, 211 E. Ninth St.

About 90 string players, including Carson City public-, private-, and home-schooled students, will perform.

The Spring Concert is free. Seating is limited and preference will be given to parents and guests of the performers. Call instructor Sue Kitts at 297-3437.

Players to stage 'Romeo and Juliet'

Proscenium Players will present the fourth play of their 2007-08 season, "Romeo and Juliet," directed by Christopher James.

The play will be presented at 8 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays, April 18-19, 25-26 at the Brewery Arts Center's Donald W. Reynold's theater, 449 W. King St. Tickets are $12 general, and $10 BAC members, seniors and students. Call 883-1976.

Party to mark 1907 car race

History and automotive enthusiasts will gather to celebrate the 1907 Thomas Flyer's sea voyage during the 1908 New York to Paris, Around the World Automobile Race.

They will enjoy a living history performance from the great-grandson of the man who drove the winning automobile across the finish line in Paris.

They will be entertained by classic ragtime music at the National Automobile Museum, 10 S. Lake St., downtown Reno, 6-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Admission to the party is $30 for museum members and $40 for the public. Call 333-9300.
