DAR chapter seeks members

The Battle Born Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, meets at noon Wednesday at B'Sghetti's Restaurant, 318 N. Carson St.

Women interested in volunteer work involving educational issues, patriotism, and history are invited to attend. Genealogical assistance is available for potential members of the DAR.

Daughters of Norway to meet

The Daughters of Norway Queen Maud Lodge No. 42 will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1201 N. Saliman Road.

They will have a white elephant sale; attendees are encouraged to bring enticing items.

Women are invited to join the lodge that are of Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Finnish, Icelandic heritage or who are married or have been married to a Norwegian, etc. For information, call 790-5060.

BAC hosting Latimer art show, dinner

The Brewery Arts Center, 449 W. King St., is presenting an art exhibit of original watercolor paintings by Lorenzo P. Latimer Friday and Saturday.

The opening reception is from 6-9 p.m. Friday in the BAC ballroom and will include a catered wine dinner, featuring San Francisco gallery owner Alfred C. Harrison Jr., author of "L.P. Latimer: California Watercolor Painter," as keynote speaker, and live musical entertainment by Carson City harpist Mary Law.

On Saturday, the Latimer collection will be on display in the BAC ballroom from 3-7 p.m. The exhibit will be open with no admission charge.

The Latimer Collection has been reproduced by Evergreen Studios as Limited Edition Giclee Prints with Certificates of Authenticity.

Michelle Shocked coming to Brewery

The Brewery Arts and X-Ville South present the alternative artist Michelle Shocked on Friday.

One of the first adult alternative singer-songwriters, Shocked got airplay all over America with her single "Anchorage."

The album it was pulled from, "Short Sharp Shocked," found itself on a heap of "best of" lists.

Shocked appears at 7:30 p.m. in the Performance Hall at the Brewery Arts Center, 511 W. King St. Tickets are $28 all seating. A $3 discount is available for BAC members, students and seniors. Call 883.1976 or visit www.breweryarts.org.

College to host all-student art show

From the dramatic to the whimsical, the classical to avant-garde, styles and mediums will mesh in the 2008 Western Nevada College Student Art Show.

The annual event features a art pieces created by students at the WNC Douglas and Carson City campuses during the academic year.

The show is in the Main and College Galleries of the Bristlecone Building Monday through May 9.

A public reception for the artists is April 23 from 4-7 p.m.
