Virginia City softball sweeps Eureka

The Virginia City softball team overcame a 7-1 deficit, scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for an 8-7 win over Eureka in the nightcap to complete a doubleheader sweep on Friday.

Virginia City won the opener 6-5. The Muckers moved into the Western IA playoff race as they improved to 3-3 in league play.

In the bottom of the seventh in the nightcap, Sophie Glogovac led off with a home run. After Brooke Bonnett walked, Krysta Olson singled and Jessie Bailey hit an RBI single. Gigi Glogovac then came through with the game-winning, walk off two-run single.

Bonnett settled down after giving up seven runs in the first two innings to pitch a complete game for the win. Glogovac was 3-for-4, Megan Culleton went 2-for-4, Olson and Brittany Bomar each went 2-for-3, Gigi Glogovac went 1-for-3 with two RBI and Amanda Bohls was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Bonnett also pitched a complete game for the win in the opener and went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Bailey was 2-for-4 with an RBI, Katie Defebaugh was 1-for-2 with two RBI and Culleton and Kelly Smiley each added a hit.
