Carson students show off skills at competition

Last week in Reno, a statewide SkillsUSA competition featured students from Carson High School and Western Nevada College involved in vocational training. SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit partnership of students, teachers and industry professionals working together to reward students for academic and technical skills, as well as offer leadership and training opportunities.

Here's a list of local winners at state. Some will go on to compete in the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference June 23 to 27 in Kansas City, Mo.:

• Alejandro Andraca - 1st place, Job Interview; 3rd place Web Design

• Matt Barnes - 2nd place, Web Design

• Dan Childs - 2nd place, Web Design

• Michelle DeLarge - 1st place, Web Design

• Devin Earl - 2nd place, Job Skill Demo

• Steven Gall - 3rd place, Extemporaneous Speaking; 3rd place, Web Design

• Ethan Graber - 2nd place, Welding

• Dwight Hicks - 1st place, Job Skill Demo

• Elizabeth Lewis - 1st place, Culinary Arts

• Amanda Norman - 1st place, Web Design; 2nd place, Job Interview

• Jamie Showalter - 3rd place, Job Skill Demo

• Penny Reynolds - Advisor of the Year

• John Hurzel - Business and Industry Service Award
