Vicky Fogelman, who was hired about eight months ago, has left her job as Carson City health department director.

Fogelman confirmed that she was was no longer with the city, but declined to comment further.

Fogelman, a Carson City resident and retired Air Force colonel, had worked before as a division manager for El Dorado County, Calif., and veterinarian and epidemiologist for the Nevada State Health Division.

She was hired as health director in August, replacing Daren Winkelman who resigned last spring.

Fogelman had gone to board in the last few months to ask supervisors to allow her to hire a health inspector and health specialist " positions she had said were important for public safety.

A majority of supervisors turned down the request, saying the city needed the hiring freeze now to balance the budget and make sure it wouldn't be forced to fire employees later.
