Kurt M. Thomas, 58, a Gardnerville resident since 1979, passed away Aug. 10, 2008 in Gardnerville.

He was born in Inglewood, Calif., to William J. Thomas and Aina B. Oberg. Kurt attended high school in Southern California and graduated from Cal State University at North Ridge. He also attended diamond-cutting school in Gardnerville and Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. He later graduated from the Gemological Institute in Santa Monica, Calif. He owned and operated Thomas Diamonds Jewelry store in Carson City for several years. Kurt was a certified diamond appraiser and diamond cutter. He loved gardening and especially how to grow Bonsai Trees. His animals were his second family.

Kurt was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his mother, Aina of Gardnerville and a brother Karl in Moorpark, Calif.

Arrangements are entrusted to Walton's Douglas County Mortuary.
