LAS VEGAS " A fire official says a 36-year-old construction worker was hurt after part of an air conditioning unit fell on him at the big CityCenter project on the Las Vegas Strip.

Clark County fire spokesman Scott Allison said Wednesday the worker appeared to have head and shoulder injuries when paramedics were summoned at 6:24 a.m. to the MGM Mirage construction site.

Allison says the worker was reported to be conscious and breathing when he was taken by ambulance to University Medical Center in Las Vegas.

Nevada OSHA has been probing a series of construction injuries and 12 deaths since December 2006 at several construction sites on the Las Vegas Strip. Six of those deaths involved workers at the $9.2 billion CityCenter project.

CityCenter is expected to open next year with a 4,000-room hotel-casino, condominiums, boutique hotels and a retail, dining and entertainment complex.
