Yesterday workmen engaged on a tunnel for the purpose of getting water for the V.T.R.R., near Franktown struck a stream of water in the solid granite that drove the workmen out and filled a trench flume. The ranchers are delighted and astonished.

Thirteen women of Elko had a very narrow escape from drowning in the Humboldt river and would have drowned but for the prompt assistance of Sheriff Clark. The Pythias Sisters of Elko were enjoying a picnic on the banks of the Humboldt river and one of the sisters suggested a boat ride. Thirteen women crowded into a small boat and paddled out into the middle of the stream where the current was strong and the water deep. The women became excited and overturned the boat. Sheriff Clark heard their screams, rushed to the river bank, threw several large poles into the water for the women to cling to and then proceeded to pull them out one by one.

A proposal to issue bonds not to exceed $40,000 for a civic auditorium in Carson City was approved by the voters. The interest was reflected by the record vote of 682 cast at a bond election in Carson City.

Forgotten places Ð Jarbidge has 24 residents who go up a dirt road to pick up their mail. Going to the post office is a major event for this isolated community. Kids wade barefoot in the nearby Jarbidge River.
