William "Bill" Goni, 92, died August 18, 2008 at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. Bill was born to Helene Bertha Schultz and Manuel Victor Goni on his father's sheep ranch north of the Carson City airport.

His grandfather was one of the first pioneers who came to the Carson City/Carson Valley area in the 1870's. He worked on his father's sheep ranch while growing up and eventually ran the ranch from 1939 until 1965. He graduated from Carson High in 1933. In 1936 while working at the Arlington Hotel he met Louise Arrascada and on May 31, 1943 they were married. He was a County Commissioner for many years, becoming Chairman of the County Commission during the time Carson City was known as Ormsby County. In 1966 he ran for and was elected Clerk/Treasure retiring in 1970 at the end of his term. After his retirement he and his wife traveled to many wonderful places including Spain (the birthplace of his father) and Germany (the birthplace of his grandfather).

Bill was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed many extracurricular activities including fishing, hunting, bowling, and especially playing tennis. He belonged to the Carson Riding Club, as well as the Lyons Club.

Bill is survived by his wife, Louise, three nieces , Vivian Bettman, Katherine Bryer, and Phyllis Latzy, as well as two nephews Kenneth Goni and Joseph Goni.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and three brothers.

Bill will be remembered for his upbeat attitude, fairness, love of the outdoors, tennis, the animals, especially horses, his generosity to others, loyal friendships, as well as his determination and strength, and especially his love of life. He will be greatly missed by all those lives he touched. He was truly an upstanding Carson City icon. At his request no services will be held. In lieu of flowers please donate to a favorite charity.
