Hot Summer Swing hosted by dance club is this evening

The High Sierra Swing Dance Club will host "Hot Summer Swing" 7:30 p.m., tonight at the Brewery Arts Center Grand Ballroom, 449 W. King St. Dance to West Coast Swing, East Coast Swing, Ballroom, Country, Latin. Music provided by DJ Joel Johnson. Open to the public, no partner is needed. $7 for club members (including sister clubs) and $10 for nonmembers. For information, call 546-6154.

Museum hosts tea, barbecue on Sept. 6

The Nevada State Museum hosts the ninth annual Tin Cup Tea and Chuck Wagon Barbecue, 5-9 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 6 at the Governor's Mansion. The event is the museum's largest annual fundraiser. This year's live auction features unique Nevada- themed items. The proceeds benefit the public programs and services provided by the Nevada State Museum. Tickets $50 per person. '101 Dalmatians' auditions at BAC

Auditions for "101 Dalmatians" will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 6 in the Performance Hall of the Brewery Arts Center, 511 W. King St. Auditioners should come prepared with a one-minute song. For information, call 883-1976.

Tour Guide Training at the museum

Volunteer Tour Guide Training will be 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 16 and Wednesday, Sept. 17 at the Nevada State Museum, 600 N. Douglas County

Carson Valley Genealogy Group meets Thursday

The Carson Valley Genealogy Group will meet, 1 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 4 at the Douglas County Library in Minden. The topic for discussion will be "How to use probate and will documents to find your ancestors." Beginner and advanced researchers are invited to attend. Support Our Troops drive

Kent's Supply Center in Fallon and Fernley is having a "Support Our Troops" drive during September. Kent's will join forces with Kathy Button's Military Care Project. Items needed are shampoo, conditioner, soap, magazines, puzzle books, dice, razors, cards, foot powder, hand warmers, stationary, female hygiene products, toothpaste, toothbrushes, prepackaged foods, CD's, DVD's, paperback books, or anything else that will make our soldiers lives a little easier. Collection barrels will be placed at 260 N. Maine Street, Fallon and 260 Logan Lane, Fernley during the entire month of September. All items donated will be packaged and sent to Nevada troops.
