Affordable lab screenings offered

Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center offers affordable lab screenings on the second Tuesday of each month. The next Community HealthCheck Fair will be Tuesday, Dec. 9. Doctor's orders are not required. Included: Comprehensive Metabolic and Lipid Panel, PSA, CBC, TSH, and Hemoglobin A1c. Appointments are required. Holiday Concert to be held at WNC

Western Nevada College presents a Holiday Concert performed by the college choir, 7:30-9:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 9, Sarah Winnemucca Hall, Aspen Building, 2201 W. College Parkway. The concert is free. Song list includes: "The Hands of Winter," "Midwinter's Chill," and variations on "Deck the Halls," directed by Bill Zabelsky. For information, call 445-3290.

Listen to jazz and poetry reading

The Mile High Jazz Band performs 8-10 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 9 at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson St. The theme of the evening, "Counting on It," relates to holidays and life. Krista Benjamin and Rita Geil will join the Mile High Jazz Band for poetry reading. Cost is $5 at the door, $4 for members of the Mile High Jazz Band Association and free for age 18 and younger. Donate toys to Ashlee's Toy Closet

Northern Nevada Chili's Restaurants are holding a toy drive for Ashlee Smith and her non-profit organization "Ashlee's Toy Closet, Inc." Friday, Nov. 28 through Wednesday, Dec. 24. Toys may be dropped off at Chili's locations on 3205 Retail Drive or 3784 Hwy 395 S. Toys are for local children as well as the victims of the Southern California fires.
