Staff Report

The Carson City Sheriff's Department is hosting a Citizens Academy beginning April 2.

Classes will be Wednesday evenings from 6-9 p.m. in the Ormsby Room at the Sheriff's office, 911 E. Musser St. A few classes may be held at off-site locations.

This academy offers citizens the opportunity to experience the various types of training deputies receive and observe the vast array of situations that officers encounter daily.

Citizens learn about patrol operations, arrest procedures, defensive tactics, units that specialize in everything from abatement of illegal drugs to reducing graffiti, to the role that community policing plays in the office.

The academy is open to everyone 18 years of age or older. Preference will be given to Carson City residents, merchants, local businesses and their employees.

There is no charge for the academy, however, due to a limited number of openings, not all applicants will be able to attend. The deadline for completed applications is 5 p.m. March 17.

For further information or to request an application, stop in at the Carson City Sheriff's Department, 911 E. Musser St. or call 887-2020 ext. 41932
