Dayton

Rassagi to speak about Leland House renovation

The Historical Society of Dayton Valley will present a free slide show by Elizabeth Rassagi titled "The View From the Leland House" from 7-8:30 p.m. Feb. 21 at the Dayton Senior Citizens Center, 320 Old Dayton Valley Road, Dayton.

Rassagi, a resident of both Reno and Austin, for more than 22 years, restored her first Austin house over seven years ago. In addition, she's recently renovated the old Leland House in Austin, a boarding house from the 1870s. Adding flavor to her presentation, Ms. Rassagi will be dressed in 1860s attire. The Historical Society of Dayton Valley invites attendees to do likewise.

Babe Ruth League sign-ups set

It is sign-up time again for Lyon County Babe Ruth Baseball.

Sign-ups will be held from 1-6 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Pizza Factory, 185 Highway 50 East, Dayton, or by mail.

The league is for all boys and girls ages 13-18 living in Lyon County that are interested in playing baseball.

Ballroom dance lessons offered

Ballroom Dance Lessons are being offered from 3-6 p.m. Sunday at Dayton Valley Golf and Country Club at Legado, 101 Palmer Drive, Dayton.

Lyon GOP to meet

Fernley

WNC offers computer classes

Western Nevada College in Fernley is holding weekend classes available to locals interested in improving their computer skills.

Classes will focus on Windows, Internet, Excel and more, each will be a one-day, eight-hour course at a cost of $34.38 per class. For seniors older than 62, the cost is $7 per class.

Pine Wood Derby set for Saturday

The Pine Wood Derby will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cottonwood Elementary School in an event sponsored by Cub Scout Pack 494.

Testing and tuning will be at 7 p.m. today. Check-in for the Fernley Cup will be held at 1 p.m. For details, call 877-494-PACK, ext. 2.

Pasta feed to aid flood victims

A community pasta feed to benefit Fernley flood victims will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Fernley Senior Center.

In addition to pasta, salad, garlic bread, dessert and a beverage will be included in the cost, which is $5 for adults and $2.50 for seniors and children younger than 12.

Dinner to celebrate recovery from addictions

A monthly "Celebrate Recovery" dinner sponsored by the New Hope Recovery Ranch for people battling drug and alcohol addictions will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Silver Springs Elementary School, 3900 W. Spruce Ave.

Date for pancake breakfast set

The Silver Stage High School Class of 2008 will host a pancake breakfast fundraiser from 8-11 a.m. Feb. 16 in the school commons area.

Cost is $5 for adults; $3 for children younger than 12; $3 for senior citizens and free to children younger than age 6. Call 577-5071.

Chamber looking for input

The Silver Springs Area Chamber of Commerce is inviting more business owners to attend its meeting at 7 p.m. Feb. 18 at the McAtee Building to offer input on growth.

Wine, chocolate and art program set

Soroptimist International of Smith Valley and Beta Sigma Phi of Smith Valley will host the Wine, Chocolate and Art Affaire at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Smith Valley Community Hall in Wellington.

Featured are wine tastings from 10 wineries including Tijesseling Winery founded by Dick Tijesseling of Yerington.

Proceeds go toward local charities and projects.

Appetizers and chocolate desserts will also be served in an elegant atmosphere with live music and an art show featuring local artists.

Horsemen to host clinic on natural hoof balance

A Natural Hoof Balance Clinic conducted by Jeff Sanders will be at 10 a.m. Feb. 23 at Hamilton's Arena, 11225 Silver Lane, Stagecoach.

Lacy J. Dalton to perform Valentine show

Country singer Lacy J. Dalton and the Dalton Gang will perform "Hearts of Lace" at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 16 at Pipers Opera House, 12 North B St., Virginia City.

The show is sponsored by the Ramada Hotel in Virginia City, which is offering a room and show package at $149 for one double-occupancy room and two concert tickets.

Lyon GOP to hold Lincoln Day dinner

The Lyon County Republican Central Committee will hold a Lincoln Day Dinner Saturday at Casino West in Yerington. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will follow at 6:30 p.m.
