Stomp for Alzheimer's


"Stompin' for Alzheimer's' will take place 7-10 p.m., Friday at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive. The evening includes homemade desserts and dancing to the "Mixed Nuts." The fundraiser benefits the Northern Nevada Alzheimer's Association Capital City Memory Walk, "Ayer's Friends" Carson City Senior Center Team.


Cost is $12 per person and includes dance and desserts. Free dance lessons 6-7 p.m., with Thane Cornell. No-host wine bar has $2 per glass. For information, call 267-3099 or 741-1802.




Cupcake servers for Sesquicentennial needed


Carson City Sesquicentennial Committee is seeking volunteers to serve 2,000 cupcakes at the Carson City Sesquicentennial Birthday Celebration to be held in the Nugget Parking lot the afternoon of Saturday, Aug. 16. The North Carson Wal-Mart Bakery has donated 2,000 cupcakes to create the world's first 2,000 cupcake cake.

Origami featured at Zephyr Cove library


Origami will be featured at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Douglas County Public Library in Zephyr Cove, 233 Warrior Way. Dennis Little will tell the history of origami and bring examples of his projects. Children and adults are welcome.

Suicide prevention seminar planned


The Partnership of Community Resources and the Nevada Office of Suicide Prevention will co-host "Suicide Prevention: Empowering Communities to Action" conference, Aug. 14-16, at the Carson Valley Inn in Minden. The conference is open to professionals and members of the public. The cost to attend the three day conference is $125. Free talks on classical music


The public is invited to learn more about classical music as the Reno Chamber Orchestra presents the second of its free "Experience Music" talks at noon Tuesday at the McKinley Arts and Culture Center, 925 Riverside Drive, Reno. Bring a brown bag lunch. No reservations or tickets are necessary.




Car show to benefit cancer center


The 10th Annual Charitable Classic Car Show is 6-10 p.m. Friday, at the Colonial Bank at Park Lane Mall, 2330 S. Virginia St. in Reno. The show features vintage and classic cars and trucks.


All proceeds benefit the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center. Food is provided by A&W. For information, call 827-7268.
