Mason, Miller and Jones are all set to compete

Appeal Staff Report

Northern Nevada will again be well represented in this year's X Games 14 to be held July 31-August 3 in Los Angeles.

Carson City's Mike Mason, Minden's Adam Jones and Gardnerville's Dustin Miller will all compete in this year's games.

Mason, 26, has a strong background in arenacross racing and that bodes well for him in his first Speed and Style event at X Games 14. Jones was clearly at the top of the Freestyle field at X Games 13 as he ultimately beat Nate Adams in the final with original maneuvers such as Stripper flips and Shaolin flips. Jones, 24, will defend his title in the event.

Miller, 27, is respected as one of the most technical riders in the sport and earned IFMA's Progression Award in 2004.

Miller will also compete in Speed and Style and Mason will compete in Moto X freestyle as well.

In freestyle, riders tackle a complex dirt course made up of a variety of different jumps " some dirt, some metal. The event challenges overall riding skills while riders integrate tricks throughout their overall run. ESPN will televise the Moto X Freestyle Final at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2.

Speed and Style, a brand new Moto X discipline introduced at the Moto X World Championships, combines racing and the gravity-defying tricks of freestyle.

Two riders compete in head-to-head racing through a speed race course while also hitting freestyle trick jumps where they are scored for style." The winner is determined by a combination of both elements. The Moto X Speed and Style Final will telecast on ABC at noon Saturday, Aug. 2.
