Firefighters from Central Lyon County, North Lyon County and Storey County responded early Monday evening to a two-alarm fire at the Sutro Transfer Station in Dayton.
The fire completely destroyed the building, according to Lyon County Emergency Management Coordinator Jeff Page.
Trash in the building continued to burn into the night. Heavy equipment was being used to move the trash to break up the fire.
The Nevada State Fire Marshall was called in to investigate the cause of the fire.
The transfer station is located at the north end of Enterprise Way in east Dayton and collects trash from the Dayton and Stagecoach region before transfering to the Lockwood Regional Landfill.
