Students get early jump at Fremont

For most students, today will be spent either back-to-school shopping or spending the last days of a vacation squeezing in that last bit of fun before the first bell rings.

But for the students at Fremont Elementary School, the bell rang a week ago at Carson City's only year-round school.

School will be starting soon in Carson City and the outlying areas. To help you get prepared - or parents, ready for a break, here's the lowdown on when the bell will finally toll for students.

• In Carson City, school for everyone but Fremont begins on Aug. 25.

• In Lyon County, school begins Aug. 25.

• Storey County students will begin the 2008-09 school year that same day.

• Western Nevada College students will begin the fall semester on the same day.

For these students at Fremont Elementary, they have a jump on everyone else.
