Virginia City softball drops three

The Virginia City High School team faced top level competition this weekend in Northern California.

Virginia City lost 7-6 to Saint Joseph's-Notre Dame of Alameda, Calif., on Friday and then dropped a doubleheader against Encinal, a school with about 2,000 students, of Alameda. Virginia City lost to Encinal 13-0 and 11-0.

Against St. Joseph's, Kelly Smiley and Megan Culleton each had two hits and an RBI and Alyssa Knight and Alexa Ballinger each had a hit and an RBI.

In the 13-0 loss to Encinal, Shay Segale had Virginia City's only hit. In the 11-0 loss, Smiley went 2-for-2 and Brooke Bonnett and Amber Lemon each added a hit.
