Carson Middle School shines in zone wrestling

Carson Middle School had several wrestlers win titles at the zone championships held in Yerington on Sunday.

Carson's eighth graders finished second as a team while Carson's seventh graders took third. Fernley won the eighth grade title while Winnemucca won the seventh grade title and Yerington was second.

In seventh grade, Cole McCarthy was named as the tournament's outstanding wrestler as he won the title at 95 pounds. Willie McDonald also took first at 85 pounds for Carson's seventh graders.

Carson eighth graders who won were: Christian Soriano, 90 pounds; Tristan Wadsworth, 85 pounds; and Dylan Sawyers, 150.

Others who placed for Carson were: Eighth grade - Zach Amato, second, 90; Jake Kerkla, third, 90; Cody Hammond, third, 95; Nate Stevens, third, 100; Austin Brown, fourth, 105; Alex Azzam, third, 120; Chance Quilling, fourth, 130; Jeremy Vernon, second, 175; Jordan Simbida, third, 175.

Seventh grade - Nick Lani, second, 75; Jordan Luhrs, third, 100; Lyle Mills, second, 115; Archie Redmon, third, 120.
