Elizabeth Bash Fox Haws

Elizabeth passed a way on March 16, 2008, at age 94. She was preceded in death by loving husbands, Henry G. Fox (1955) and Captain J.W. "Bill" Haws (1992), who was a United Airlines pilot for many years.

Elizabeth was born in Port Townsend, Wash., on June 25, 1913, and raised with her brother, Frank Bash Jr., and sister Martha Morrison, in Handford, Wash., and Grants Pass, Ore., by her parents, Leticia and Frank Bash.

Elizabeth attended Albany College (now Lewis and Clark University) and graduated from Oregon State University, in 1936, with a degree in home economics. Elizabeth began her elementary teaching career in 1958, in Douglas County, Washoe County and Carson City, retiring in 1973. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, in Carson City and member and past president of the Carson City/Carson Valley PEO chapter. She previously resided in the "old" James Canyon Ranch in Jacks Valley, and was one of the early organizers of the Genoa Candy Dance celebration.

She is survived by her three children, Richard H. Fox, of Prescott, Ariz., James G. Fox, of Harvard, Mass., and Ann Fox Hamilton, of Reno. She was mother-in-law of Jody Fox and Paul Hamilton, and the devoted grandmother of Helen and Russell Fox, Anne and Jaime Fox, and Elizabeth K. Hamilton, and great-grandmother of Caroline and Julia Fox Robinson.

Memorial services will be held on March 26, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 110 North Nevada Street, Carson City. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her name may be made to the local chapter of the Alzheimer's Foundation.
