Windy weather Wednesday; Fifth Street closure Friday

Road work continues in Carson City with areas of delays, mainly Fairview Drive between Roop Street and South Edmonds, and Highway 50 East between Airport Road and Saliman Road.

Fifth Street will be closed to through traffic March 28-31. Alternate routes of travel are Highway 50 and Fairview Drive.

The Department of Transportation reports at 6:19 a.m. all roads in Northern Nevada open with no controls except on Highway 395 through Washoe Valley: Campers and trailers are prohibited from East Lake Boulevard to Winters Ranch.

Snow tires or chains required for 6.1 miles between 6.5 miles north of SR 28 and 11.9 miles south of Highway 395.

Today's weather will be partly cloudy and windy with south winds 15-30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Highs 48-58. Isolated gusts up to 65 mph in wind prone areas.

Tonight, brisk and partly cloudy with isolated showers in the evening. Lows 20-30 with west winds 15-25 mph decreasing to 10-15 mph after midnight. Gusts to 45 mph in the evening.
