Carson City


USDA Commodity Foods to be given out


USDA Commodity Foods will be distributed 9-11 a.m., today at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St. by Retired and Senior Volunteer Program.


This month's commodity foods include spaghetti, applesauce, canned beef, canned tomatoes, orange juice, apricots and mixed fruits. Any needy family in Carson City can be eligible. The household must sign the "Issuance Sheet" at the Community Center certifying that the household's annual income does not exceed 150 percent of the federal poverty guidelines. A picture ID is required.

Tax filing help at FISH


Free tax filing and stimulus plan assistance provided 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday and April 5 at FISH, 138 E. Long St. Low income and seniors will be helped to complete and file their 2007 tax returns and the new stimulus plan forms. E-Filing is available.


For an appointment, call 882-6332. Similar services available at the Carson, Douglas, Dayton, and Silver Springs Senior Centers. Call them for specifics.




Douglas County


Bingo and ice cream social at senior center


The Young at Heart Senior Citizens Club hosts a membership bingo and ice cream social at noon, Saturday at the Douglas County Senior Center, 2300 Meadow Lane, Gardnerville.


This event and the bingo are free to all Young at Heart members. The yearly dues for Young at Heart are $3. For information, call 783-6455.


Virginia City


Spaghetti dinner fundraiser at center


The Storey County Senior Center annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser is 6-9 p.m. Saturday at E and Mill Streets in Virginia City.


Cost is $10 for adults which includes one glass of wine; $5 for children 12 and under, which includes a soft drink.


Live music will be performed during dinner. Call 847-0957 for more information.
