Rosemary Mitchell Clark

Rosemary (Mitchell) Clark, age 69, passed away peacefully following a lengthy illness at Renown Hospital, Reno, March 25, 2008. She was a homemaker, a member of the Walker River Paiute Tribe and a former member of the Fort Peck Assiniboine/Sioux Tribes.

She was born in Santa Fe, N.M. May 13, 1938 to Frederick and Lillian (Murphy) Mitchell. Her family moved around because of her father's work as a dairyman for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The family lived in Schurz, and then moved to Stewart where she attended Carson City area schools, while her parents worked at the Stewart Indian School and the Nevada State Museum.

She married Walter Mosley (1955) and had five children while living in Carson City, and Houston, Texas. After becoming a widow, she moved to Carson City with her children, then to the Oakland Bay area where she met and married Paul Eugene Clark (1964). Together they had 4 more children before moving back to Carson City in 1973. In 1980, they moved to Sacramento, Calif. and eventually returned to retire in Fernley in 1999.

Rosemary was a loving and generous wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and aunt. She was known for cooking delicious meals for her large family; for her generosity and loving, kind heart; and compassion for those less fortunate. She loved her Native American Indian heritage, archeology, reading, watching sports and history. Most importantly, she loved her Creator Father God, and was sustained by her faith in Jesus Christ during her years on this earth.

Rosemary is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Lillian Mitchell; brother, Frederick Daniel Mitchell, Jr. and grandparents Murphy Williams of Schurz; Jennie Summers of Lee Vining, Calif.; and Daniel and Lulu "Garfield" Mitchell of Poplar, Mont.

Rosemary is survived by her husband of 44 years, Paul Eugene Clark; sons, Daniel Mosley and Joseph Mosley of Fernley), William Clark of Antelope, Calif., Thomas Clark of Sacramento, Calif., John Mosley Chandler, Ariz.; daughters, Karen Manriquez and Pamela Metcalf (Glendale, Ariz.), Margaret Robinson of Antelope, Calif., Marie Dave of Sacramento, Calif.; sisters, Freda Mitchell of Sparks, Iyla Mae Rodriguez of San Bruno, Calif., Ursula Webb of Oakland, Calif.; uncles, Jack Williams of Hawthorne, Irwin "Punky" Williams of Schurz and Everett "Chucko" Williams of Carson City; 26 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Our wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend will be greatly and sadly missed by many of those lives that she touched. No words can express the immense loss we feel in our hearts, yet we know she "fought the good fight" as a warrior, and that this is not good-bye, but poonedooa, "we'll see you again".

A funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at O'Brien, Rogers & Crosby, 600 W. 2nd St., Reno. Interment 2 p.m. at the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Fernley.
