RSVP for healthcare auxiliary meeting


RSVP by Thursday for The Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare Auxiliary May meeting and luncheon at 11 a.m. May 13 at the Gold Dust West Hotel and Casino, 2171 Highway 50 East. Installation of the 2008-2009 Executive Board will take place at the meeting. Cost is $20 per person. RSVP to 882-7057.


Natives and Newcomers to meet


The Carson City Natives and Newcomers will meet 11:30 a.m., Thursday, at the Carson Nugget, 507 N. Community band to perform May 18


The Capital City Community Band will present an Old-Fashioned Band Concert 3 p.m., Sunday, May 18 in the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 449 W. King St. The band will perform a variety of music ranging from classical to show tunes to marches. For more information about the band or the concert, call 883-2219.


Group seeks volunteers for walk


Volunteers are needed for several Alzheimer's Walk fundraisers sponsored by Team Ayer's Friends.


Volunteers are needed the week of May 12 for sorting and pricing items, as well as on May 17 for setting up, selling items and for the coffee bar. Other fundraisers are on June 20, July 25 and Aug. 8.

Domestic violence benefit set


Mother's Day Blessings to benefit victims of domestic violence, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, D'Vine Wine, 200 N. Stewart St. Music by "The Hot Two." Cost of $15 includes a glass of wine and hors d'oeuvres.


Proceeds used to provide "new beginnings bags" to victims of domestic violence. Sponsor as many "new beginnings bags" as you want or simply donate a set amount.


All donations are tax deductible.

Galaxy Theatres offering passes


The Galaxy Theatres has rolled out its Privilege Pass program. The program has been instituted in a effort to exclude trouble makers from the theater and not the majority of minors. The privilege pass is a photo I.D. card that will be issued to minors 17 and younger who wish to be admitted to the theater during curfew periods and agree to follow basic rules of good behavior. Privilege Passes will be issued noon-8 p.m., Monday-Thursday.

Big Brothers Big Sisters seeks volunteers


Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada has expanded to Douglas County Middle Schools and seeks volunteer mentors. Volunteer mentors will be matched with local children who need and want a Big Brother or Big Sister mentor. 'Big Mama's' show stages on Saturday


Douglas County Senior Services hosts the annual Big Mama's Show and Shine Car Show on Saturday at Lampe Park Pavilion in Gardnerville to benefit Meals on Wheels. Check-in is 8-10 a.m. Show and Shine is 10 a.m.-2 p.m. with the awards presentation at 3 p.m. Red's Old 395 Grill will be cooking pulled pork sandwiches and brats, there will be a bounce house for kids, music from "TimeWarp."
