McAlman takes second in the hammer

Carson High graduate Alex McAlman earned all-Western Athletic Conference first team honors with a second place finish in the hammer throw for the University of Nevada women's track team at the WAC Championships on Saturday in Boise, Idaho.

McAlman, a sophomore who has already qualified for the NCAA West Regional Championships in the hammer, took second on Saturday with a personal record 186 feet, five inches. The mark placed her third on Nevada's all-time list.

In the team standings, Nevada was fifth (91 points) behind Louisiana Tech (173), Idaho, Fresno State and Utah State (100).

Louisiana Tech won its fourth consecutive title, finishing first with 173 points. Idaho finished second (122 points), followed by Fresno State (122.5 points), Utah State (100 points), Nevada (91 points), Hawai`i (74.5 points), New Mexico State (71.5 points) and Boise State (64.50).
