Deadlines for registering at WNC near


Registration for Western Nevada College summer classes is in full swing, with the session start date looming. Classes begin June 9 and registration and payment must be completed by Friday. Citibank sponsors 2008 Business Symposium, 5-8 p.m., Monday at the C.V.I.C. Hall, 1602 Esmeralda Avenue, Minden. Tom Stoppard play by Reno theater

Octane Festival planned


The inaugural Octane Fest includes an appearance by Supercross King Jeremy McGrath, concerts by the Marshall Tucker Band and Unwritten Law, and an anchor event at Top Gun Raceway.


Octane Fest, June 10-15, is a week of motor sports events and rock concerts that will be anchored by the NHRA Lucas Oil Series Drag Races at Top Gun Raceway. The races at Top Gun will also feature top alcohol and funny cars.


Boys & Girls Club will sponsor a fundraiser dinner June 12 at the Fallon Convention Center with special guests Jeremy McGrath and NHRA funny car champion "Fast" Jack Beckman.


Other events include an IMCA Modified Shootout and a closed-course, off-road race at Rattlesnake Raceway, a Tuff-Truck/demolition derby/quad war at the Churchill County Fairgrounds, and a "Festival Central" at the old Wal-Mart parking lot on Williams Avenue.


Octane Fest will open with a "Night of Fire" featuring drag boats and dragsters starting up and shooting flames June 10.


A Hurricam's Car Show will take place in Oats Park during the festival along with "A Taste of Fallon" produced by the Fallon Chamber of Commerce. Tickets are available by calling (775) 423-4556 or (800) 874-0903 or by visiting www.octanefest.com.
