LAS VEGAS " Henderson police say a motorcyclist being chased by police and the Nevada Highway Patrol crashed on a freeway overpass near the Las Vegas Strip and fell to the highway below.

Henderson and Las Vegas police say they don't know the condition of the motorcyclist. He was hospitalized with critical injuries after the 9 a.m. Tuesday wreck on the Tropicana Avenue flyover over Interstate 15.

Henderson police spokesman Todd Rasmussen says it all started about 8:30 a.m., when a biker dressed in black displayed a handgun and walked out with an alcoholic drink at a gasoline service station convenience store on Saint Rose Parkway near Eastern Avenue.

Rasmussen says Henderson police chased the motorcycle on the 215 Beltway to Jones Boulevard, and then lost sight of it on Tropicana Avenue heading toward the Las Vegas Strip.

The crash happened a short time later, after witnesses say an NHP officer began chasing the bike.
