Obituary: Harry M. Blackbern

Harry M. Blackbern, 93, passed away April 11, 2009 at the Northern Nevada Veteran's Hospital in Reno.

Harry was born Feb. 13, 1916 in Modesto, Calif. to William and Florence Blackbern.

Harry served in the U.S. Marines during World War II. He was wounded in the South Pacific. Harry was honorably discharged from the Marines as a disabled veteran. He has been a resident of Carson City for 42 years, moving from Reno. He was a member of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars. He and his wife, Margie spent many fun times at the Carson City Senior Citizen's Center. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Harry married Margie Ann Koch Nov. 17, 1962.

Harry was preceded in death by a brother George Blackbern who was mortally wounded in World War II, and a sister Elizabeth Carrick.

Among his survivors are wife Margie Ann Koch; son Ronald Blackbern of Visalia, Calif. and sister, Elma Medford of Truckee, Calif.

Harry loved his Siamese cat "Angel".

A Memorial Service will be3 p.m., Saturday at Walton's Chapel, Carson City.

He was very appreciative of the care he received from the V.A. Hospital in Reno. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his honor to the V.A. Hospital.
