Mills Park train to begin this weekend

The Carson City Railroad Association will hold a grand opening for the 2009 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday and

1-5 p.m., Sunday, in Mills Park, 1111 E. William St. Rides will be free on Sunday. Cost is $2 per person and children two and under are free. Call 887-2523.

International chili cookoff in Virginia City

Virginia City celebrates Cinco de Mayo with The International Chili Society sanctioned Comstock ICS Cook-off Saturday, May 2 in the Bucket of Blood parking lot. Cooking begins at 10:30 a.m. and tasting at noon. Red and green chili and salsa will vie for best in each category. Entry fees are $30 for red chili, $20 for green chili, $10 for salsa and $42 membership fee for non-members of the ICS who want to compete. A People's Choice chili contest also will be held. Kids can sign up for Tahoe Music Camp

The University of Nevada, Reno's 53rd annual Lake Tahoe Music Camp invites student musicians middle school through high school to participate in a week of music-making July 26-Aug. 1, Nevada State 4-H Camp, Stateline. The camp gives the opportunity to participate in concert and jazz bands and a variety of wind and percussion chamber ensembles. Tuition is $500 per camper. A deposit of $250 must be made at the time of registration and tuition must be paid in full by July 13. Space is limited, registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
