Storey County neighborhood upset with flood insurance increase

RENO " Residents of a neighborhood east of Reno are up in arms over the more than tripling of flood insurance premiums.

Rainbow Bend residents in Storey County say no one can explain the reason for the steep increase that sent annual premiums from $300 to about $1,000.

Officials say flood hazard zones haven't changed significantly, even with new digital flood plain mapping introduced in January by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

FEMA is sending representatives to a community meeting in Lockwood on Tuesday to hear concerns and provide information.
