A Carson City man sentenced to 10 years to life in 2000 for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl was granted parole last month.

David Haadee Sediq, 47, a former California police officer, is scheduled to be released from prison in January.

According to Kathi Baker, executive secretary with the Nevada Board of Parole Commissioners, all seven members of the parole board agreed to release Sediq on his first appearance before the board.

"He participated in appropriate programs, has a stable release plan and community and family support," said Baker.

She said it appears Sediq wants to be released to Louisiana.

In 2000, Sediq was convicted of one count of sexual assault. The allegations came to light after the girl told a Carson Middle School teacher that Sediq, her mother's live-in boyfriend of five years, had molested her on several occasions in their Carson City home.

The child, 13 at the time of Sediq's arrest, said the assaults began when she was 10.

Baker said Sediq's release hinges on whether arrangements can be made with Louisiana to assume his parole. His scheduled release date is Jan. 11, 2010. 쇓
