U.S. 395 detour for Carson Valley parade

A portion of U.S. 395 in Minden and Gardnerville will be closed for three hours Saturday night for the 14th annual Parade of Lights.

The parade will feature 40 floats, honor guards, car clubs and marching bands.

Highway 395 and streets feeding into the highway will close at

4:30 p.m. and reopen at 7:30 p.m.

The parade starts at 5 p.m. from Lampe Park in Gardnerville and travels east on Waterloo Lane and then turns north onto the highway. It turns off the highway at Esmeralda Avenue and makes its way to Minden Park.

The highway will be closed at Highway 395 and Buckeye Road in Minden and at Highway 395 and Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville.

Northbound motorists south of the parade route will be diverted onto Waterloo then Toler, to Orchard Road and then Buckeye to get to Highway 395.

The highway and side streets will reopen as the parade travels through town.

However, Esmeralda Avenue, Mono Avenue, Fifth Street and Sixth Street in Minden will be closed around Minden Park for the entire event to provide for the dispersal of parade participants.
