130 YEARS AGO

A New York dispatch announces that Edison has given a private exhibition of his new light. On New Year's Eve, Menlo Park will be illuminated by the new process and the new year will dawn cheap light throughout the world.

100 YEARS AGO

In accordance with the usual custom the new winter train has been installed and presents a pretty sight as anyone will find anywhere in the railroad world. Twice a year the local railroad places in service a new train, that is the one right out of the paint shop where a general overhauling is done. Mr. Yerington takes special pride in these new trains. Among the railroad men this train has become know as the V&T Toy Train.

70 YEARS AGO

Mrs. Charles Russell this morning gave birth to a baby boy weighing six and one-quarter pounds. Both mother and child are getting along well. The baby's father is a White Pine county assemblyman and publisher of the Ely Record.

50 YEARS AGO

Presentation of awards was the highlight of the Rotary Club Cub Scout Pack 333. Cub Scout Leader Lawrence Hunt said scouts collected canned food for the yearly drive for Eagle Valley Ranch.

20 YEARS AGO

A new Nevada boomtown, Wendover, is highlighted in a story by Ed Vogel. Seen as Nevada's fastest growing town, the population has soared from 307 to 2,200 since 1980.

10 YEARS AGO

Officials are hoping for a higher turnout for the 2000 census. In 1990, Nevada had the lowest turnout at 61 percent, making the state "dead last" in the race for millions of federal dollars.
