Railroad and history buffs will get the opportunity to see and collect train memorabilia during the Nevada Comstock Railroad Memorabilia Show & Sale next week in Virginia City.

"Like anything else people collect, you can always find a show somewhere in the country," said Wendy Munson, a Dayton collector who is sponsoring the show along with her husband, Mike.

The show, which offers collectibles from 34 dealers over 65 tables, will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 11 in the Virginia City Middle School gym at 127 S. D St. Cost is $5. Kids younger than 12 are admitted free.

Early birds can pay $20 on July 10 from noon to 5 p.m. and July 11 from 7-9 a.m.

Among the items of historic interest will be lanterns, locks, keys, linens, china, menus, telegraph- and express-related items, books, brass baggage tags, signs, brochures, uniforms and badges.

The couple has been collecting and selling at railroad shows for about 20 years, she said.

"Mike had always liked trains and had hopped trains as kid. I liked antiques. When we got together, he realized that trains were antiques and I realized that antiques included trains, so it was a good match," she said.

Last year, the Munsons were asked by the Northern Nevada Railway Foundation to organize the first railroad memorabilia show in Nevada in 30 years.

About 400 people attended the Railway Reflections show last year at the Nevada State Library and Archives, Munson said.

This show promises to be at least twice as big, she said.

Vendors are coming from throughout the Nevada, California, Oregon, Arizona, Montana, Wyoming and Iowa.
