NV Supreme Court rejects court staff furloughs

(AP) - Nevada Supreme Court justices have again rejected furloughs for court personnel, saying cuts made in other areas equal the amount that would have been saved under the furlough program mandated for other state workers.

But in a six-page administrative order posted on the court's Web site Friday, the justices directed staff to develop a plan for reduced court services one day per month should further budget cuts become necessary.

The 2009 Legislature required state workers to take one unpaid day off a month, beginning last July 1. The measure amounts to a 4.6 percent salary reduction.

At that time, justices said they already made concessions to reach those savings, but that the court would review its revenue and finances every quarter.
