130 YEARS AGO

Yesterday a man was brought before Justice Cary charged with assault and battery. A jury was empaneled and the defendant was addressed by the court: "Are you guilty or not guilty?" The prisoner did not comprehend. One of the jurymen arose and replied: "Guidy, if you blease der Gourt (sic)." "Of What?" asked the Court. "Dis morning I pat a man over der nose mit a pung starder ... he comes into my saloon and ..." "You are not on trial, you are a juryman." "Oh, is dot so?" The juror took his seat, quite astonished he was not on trial.

100 YEARS AGO

The Lake Theater will have two fine Biograph reels - "Test of Friendship" and "Love Finds a Way." Two Edison reels will also be shown: "Race for Millions" and "The Little Detective."

70 YEARS AGO

Mrs. Marion G. Bowen and Miss Sade Grant entertained at their home Messrs. and Mesdames William B. Ligon, Bill A. Ligon and Elwood Rose, John W. Grant, Grant L. Bowen, M. E. McGrath and Mrs. Wallace.

Edith Waters appeared before the regional planning commission on behalf of Dr. Henry Stewart in connection with the purchase of ground facing Mountain Street near the Carson-Tahoe Hospital for an office. Commissioners felt the finger-like property should be brought into the city.

20 YEARS AGO

A new nominee for Nevada's "Black Book" of unsavory types barred from gaming will be named at Friday's meeting according to state Gaming Control Board Chairman Bill Bible.

10 YEARS AGO

Henderson, a defense town in Southern Nevada has edged out Reno as Nevada's second-largest city.
