Marie (Haslett) Brown celebrated her 80th birthday with more than 75 friends and relatives at the Old Silver City Schoolhouse (now the Silver City Community Center) on Saturday, Sept. 26.

Brown is a native Nevadan who attended the Silver City School from 1935-1941 for grades first through seventh. Former Silver City schoolmates attending the party included Marie's sister Nadine Haslett Leffler, Joy (Longero) Amodei, Art Wilson and Arthur Plummer.

The "matriarch of Silver City," Lula Kendall, age 97, attended as well as sisters Nevada June (Haslett) Hale Byron and Nita (Haslett) Lovett, both home-birthed in Silver City.

Friends and family from all over Nevada and California and from as far away as Texas traveled to Silver City to take part in the celebration.
