Carson boys soccer improves to 2-0

SPARKS a€" Carson High improved to 2-0 with a 2-1 nonleague boys soccer win over Reed Wednesday night.

Carson is 2-0-0 heading into Saturdaya€™s Sierra League opener at Bishop Manogue at 11 a.m.

a€œIt was a very physical game, all 80 minutes of ita€ said Nate Brigham, Carsona€™s second-year coach. a€œReed is a very good team; a scrappy team. They play very hard.a€

Carsona€™s defense, led by Nate Eng, Jorge Guevara, Guillermo Alonso and Luis Aguilar, didna€™t allow a goal until late in the second half.

Reed attempted a corner kick, and the assistant referee ruled that Carson goalie Pedro Chavez batted the ball down on the line and awarded Reed a goal.

Luis Gonzalez gave Carson a 1-0 lead midway through the opening half. Gustavo Gonzalez made it 2-0 in the 65th minute.

Chavez was credited with four saves.

In JV action, Carson and Reed battled to a scoreless tie.
