(AP) - Gov. Jim Gibbons has signed an executive order creating a state task force to recommend how to implement a health information technology network in Nevada.

Funding is provided through federal stimulus grants.

The 16-member panel is comprised of government officials as well as health care industry and business leaders.

The governor says he wants recommendations by April 30.

Gibbons says the goal is to give health care providers easier access to patient medical records without compromising a patient's privacy.

He says such a system also would reduce duplicative treatments or tests and allow for faster detection of infectious disease outbreaks.
