A gunman who robbed the Bank of the West in North Carson City about 4 p.m. today is also suspected of robbing three other branches, including two in the Lake Tahoe area.

Sheriff Ken Furlong said the man, wearing what appeared to be a fake beard and clothing similar to that seen in the previous robberies, entered the bank, flashed a gun at the clerk then made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

He fled through the bank's south doors, and then ran through the Mountain View Assisted Living Facility that backs up to the bank parking lot and exits onto Mountain Street.

Witnesses report last seeing the suspect running south on Mountain Street.

FBI agents and Carson City officers scoured the neighborhood surrounding the bank for over an hour.

A pair of gloves found in the intersection of Michael and Jeanell drives is not believed to belong to the gunman, said Furlong.

"He wasn't wearing gloves," he said.

The suspect is described as a white male, 6 feet to 6-feet-2, wearing a gray turtleneck, green jacket with collar, dark pants and dark shoes. He reportedly wore a fedora-type hat, has short gray hair and was armed with a silver handgun and carrying a black bag. He appeared to be wearing a fake beard.

Police suspect the same man robbed Bank of the West branches in Grass Valley on Dec. 22 and March 31, South Lake Tahoe on Feb. 18 and Kings Beach on March 8.

Feb. 18, and March 8 Bank of the West branches in South Lake Tahoe and Kings Beach were robbed.

And on March 31, for the second time the same Bank of the West branch in Grass Valley was hit.

In each of the robberies the man appears to wear the same clothing, hat and fake facial hair.

In the Kings Beach case police believe the man fled in a maroon or burgundy four-door sedan. In the March 31 Grass Valley case, police were looking for a gold sedan.

No vehicle was identified in today's Carson City robbery.
