Local comedienne Kat Simmons brings her sell-out comedy show "3 Blonde Moms," to Carson City Nugget, Saturday, Aug. 7. Doors open at 7 p.m. with showtime at 7:30 p.m.

"This is my debut show at the Carson Nugget and I am so happy and excited to be there," Simmons said.

The show has sold out four times in the past five years during performances at the Carson Valley Inn in Gardnerville, where Simmons resides.

With Simmons' move from CVI to the Nugget, she's also got a place in the show's line-up with longtime star, founder and producer Joan Fagan of The Drew Carey Show fame and Donna Cherry, known for her impersonations, singing and as a guest star on "Desperate Housewives," who Simmons said, brings Las Vegas-style glitz to the show.

"This show is called 3 Blonde Moms ... other women who are moms have been known to rotate through the line-up, because, well ... we're mothers and sometimes we just need to be home," Simmons said. "A good description of the show is three unlikely moms, with nothing in common except that they are moms, take the stage.

"And of course, I'm a redhead so short of a wig, I don't know how we fix that!"

The trio takes center stage together in the show opener, complete with multimedia montage, then rotate through their own acts and close together.

"From the beginning, I knew that if Joan was attached to the show it would be good," Simmons said. "And we are three unlikely friends with great chemistry both on and off stage.

"It's so much fun from a performance perspective to interact with these amazing women, and then we've got audiences who can relate to what we're saying and it's just fun for everyone," Simmons said. "I mean, yes, men attend, but the women who are there are, first, just glad to be out of the house - that they get a kitchen pass - and can spend time laughing with their friends or honey."

Simmons has had many good things taking place in her career, including winning the 2009 eWomens International Talent Contest in Dallas, Texas. She has traveled extensively giving performances in such places as Seattle, Illinois and Toronto.

"I have been working some really great venues and my commitment is to work for my demographic," she said. "I had an epiphany that all I have to do is be myself, which has made performing joyful.

"Working with the Carson Nugget has been a part of that, where I get to be part of the birth process while working with Star (Anderson, the Nugget's general manager), which has been a delightful experience."

Simmons would like to see this first run at the Nugget turn into a quarterly show, since maybe now, more than before even, laughter is needed.

"This show is for anyone who is a mom, has a mom, is married to or dating a mom," Simmons said. "The show offers something for everyone."

The Carson Nugget is located at 507 N. Carson St., Carson City. Tickets cost $25, available by calling 775-882-1626 ex. 251, with limited availability at the door.
