130 YEARS AGO

The coming year being leap year, the young ladies have determined not to receive, but instead will reverse the usual custom and call on gentlemen. Of course the gentlemen with their usual gallantry, will provide the festive board with good things, gastronomic, and entertain all callers - that is those who come at reasonable hours and keep sober.

100 YEARS AGO

Some peculiar weather conditions today. The thermometer is registering some five degrees below zero. Pedestrians are walking in the center of Carson Street while boys are putting on their skates and going down the entire length of the street and any ponds available. A rain fell and then froze, covering everything. A little of this kind goes a long ways.

70 YEARS AGO

Two gold watches, a diamond ring, fifteen dollars and a bottle of whiskey was loot secured last evening by an unmasked pistol-brandishing stranger after he tied up two women in "No. 7" of the restricted district.

50 YEARS AGO

A former lieutenant in the Harbor Defense corps today stepped into the running controversy over claims of an American diver that he spotted the hull of a sunken Japanese submarine near Los Angeles Harbor. Jim Stoddard of Carson said he boarded the projecting hull of the submarine on Christmas Day in 1941 after it had been attacked by Navy dive bombers.

20 YEARS AGO

Nevada's jobless rate slipped from 5.3 percent to five percent in November as the state hit its highest job total in history.

10 YEARS AGO

The history of Lake Tahoe is recounted in a story of Winona James, who came to the lake in 1904. James is the oldest living member of the Washoe Tribe. Born Winona Kyser, she used to live each summer in the area where Camp Richardson is now in a teepee-like structure and made baskets to sell to tourists.
