Obituary: John Thomas Flanagan

John Thomas Flanagan, 72, of Virginia City, was born February 17, 1938, in Reno to Jack and Florence (Dick) Flanagan. He graduated from Virginia City High School and from the University of Nevada with a degree in economics. John was Storey County Assessor for 16 years and Storey County Commissioner for 7 1/2 years. He passed away July 13, 2010, in Virginia City. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Devin in April 2010. John is survived by his wife, Erlene Flanagan; daughters Amy Lindsay (Shawn) of Boise, Idaho, and Megan Torri (Casey) of Loyalton, Calif.; stepsons Keith and Curt Endres both of Denver; grandchildren Nick, Bailey, Ayden, and Theron; and sister Sharon Flanagan Oberg of Gardnerville. A private burial was held at the Virginia City Cemetery. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 17, 2010, at St. Mary's in the Mountains Catholic Church in Virginia City. A reception will follow the service at the Historic Fourth Ward School at 537 South C Street in Virginia City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Historic Fourth Ward School, P.O. Box 4, Virginia City, NV 89440. Arrangements entrusted to Walton's Chapel of the Valley, Carson City.
